The Number One Question I Get
I get asked this question the most out of any other, “Are you still on the radio?” I’m actually not on the radio anymore. After a 25 year radio career and about a seven year stint as one of the voices of Oregon baseball, no, I’m not on the air anymore, except when you hear my voice attached to one of our clients at BP Media Solutions. So yeah, every once in a while, you’ll hear my voice on the radio, but it’s only because I voiced a commercial. So what happened? People still actually talk to me like, “Hey, I listen to you every day on the radio.” I haven’t been on the radio since 2013.
Top Athletes
So, 25 year radio career started in Roseburg and then Missoula, Montana from 1995 to ’99. Then I got my dream job at 710 KIRO in Seattle from 1999 to 2002. It was an amazing time. I was around the Mariners and Seahawks and Sonics and Huskies, was there to see the Mariners win 116 wins, was in the clubhouse every day, from the Kingdome to Safeco Field, met Ken Griffey Jr. and worked around him all the time, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro, Lou Piniella, all the great names of that era.
Which other than the Superbowl wins for the Seahawks were probably the golden era in Seattle sports history, because also the Seahawks were interesting there for a little while. Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Alexander, Mike Holmgren, some of the guys that took them to Super Bowl 40 and also a Rose Bowl trip for the Huskies when they beat Kansas State with Rick Neuheisel, whose name still chaps some of the Oregon and Oregon State fans that I’m friends with. But we quit Seattle in 2002. My wife and I and three daughters moved back to Roseburg because this was the place we felt the most comfortable.
Life After Radio
This was the place where the small town just felt important. We felt connected to community and we have never regretted the move back to Roseburg. So after I left radio, went to Seven Feathers Casino resort for about a year and a half, and then started BP media solutions in 2015, so we’re a little over five years old now. We’ve got three full-time employees and a whole fleet of subcontractors, incredible local talented marketing professionals that are all available to you for one single low retainer rate price that’s much cheaper than what it would cost to add us to your marketing department. But as far as radio goes and the career path that I’ve chosen, I’ll tell you what being the owner of BP Media Solutions has done for me. One, first of all, it’s put me in a place in The Loft here in Roseburg, Oregon, where I’m surrounded by the most amazing people who are also entrepreneurs that I have ever met in my entire life.
It’s freed me up to also be a Roseburg city councilor, which has added to the number of things that I have experience in that pay off when we do work for other clients, whether that is a government contract on public relations or a political campaign, that either as a politician running for office or a school bond levy. I’ve done a lot. We have a team of people that have done an awful lot of work and we’re ready to go to work for you. So, no, I’m not on the radio anymore, but I am the owner of BP Media Solutions and we are standing by waiting for you to check in with us to see what we can do for you in marketing for your business.
